Sleep deprivation can have many detrimental effects on your baby/child, including:
• behavioural issues from being constantly tired
• preventing concentration, low attention span, often affecting their learning and development
• affecting social skills through tiredness and irritability
• they may be hyperactive, have mood swings, aggression. misdiagnosis of ADHD
• poor immune system, constantly being ill, catching bugs from nursery/school
• lack of growth, failure to thrive or obesity
There is no right or wrong way when it comes to sleep training babies/children. They are all individuals, with different family situations and dynamics. It is about finding an approach that will work and be best suited for your family.
It’s important to find a method that suits your own parenting styles and the temperament of your child. Often, a holistic approach, looking at diet, exercise, sleep environment, bedtime routine, health issues, is the best methodology to take.
